transporting bikes from uk to europe
Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to take bikes in a van / on trailer by ferry to France and onward to Greece? I've heard that because of brexit each bike needs a Carnet of some sort if it's not being ridden...or potentially face fines...
Any advice?? |
As long as the bikes aren't brand new out of a factory customs won't be interested, since no European countries require a carnet. Only in terms of trade you would have to consider import tax.
But a question is permitted: to which continent does UK belong. I learnt in geography that UK is part of Europe as is Ireland or Spain :innocent: :thumbup1: |
Thanks. Of course the 'uk' is part of Europe!

Tourists are exempted from paying import duties when taking personal items temporary into another country. This is also true for the tourists vehicle. But.......multiple vehicles are most certain not personal items. A vehicle and a trailer....yes, but multiple bikes? I don´t think so. I also think one of the conditions for free temporary import are that they are for personal use. Barely you can explain customs that you are using multiple vehicles/bikes for your own personal use, unless the other bike owners are traveling with you in the same van. So when those bikes are not for personal use i think you are obligated to some sort of customs process. As said I am not sure but I would advice to ask for information at your countries automobile association or customs. |
What do you mean with bikes? Are these bikes of you and your buddies traveling with you or do you transport them for a company. In case they are your bikes nothing is required as you are not importing them to an other country.

I seem to remember that as an issue back when Brexit first started - race bikes having to be exported and imported, that kind of thing - but I have a vague memory (vague as it didn't affect me) that some kind of agreement / concession was made. Worth checking but I think it was yesterday's scare. |

Yes, you will be fine. Mrs Berin and I did it twice last year. Could be a bit more to do if you have bikes with you that are not registered in your name but. Take your original V5 with you, and that’s about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
