They took my bike, guys... 2009 BMW 800 GS in Prague, Czech Rep.

It was taken from right in front of my hostel in Prague 5, despite the heavy steel cable locking it to some bars.

I'm posting here as a warning and as a last-ditch effort to see if anyone has seen it.

It was stolen this morning, Nov 18, during the day, while I was in my room.

Here are some photos... 2009 BMW 800 GS stolen in Prague, Czech Rep. (Praha 5) on the morning of Nov. 18, 2015. Canadian plates from Ontario - Album on Imgur

I'm really devastated guys, I crossed the Americas twice, Europe, Morocco and in total 25 countries with her.

Anyways, I've already filed a report with the police. If anyone can pass this information on to a Czech biker network, I would be super grateful.

Any information to ebdavidson[at]gmail[dot]com

I am so sorry you have had your bike taken. I am riding the Balkans and will be in Prague in about 8 or 9 days. I will keep my eyes open for it.
I don't know any Czech bikers, all I can say is i will look on my travels

Sorry to read this, as others said: get the word out. Dont just give up.

Contact bikers and contact the media. Send out your story to as many people as you can by email. Maybe even offer a reward.

Try local newspapers, just walk into their offices and tell your story.

Try local television, just walk into their offices and tell your story.

Hand out flyers with the picture of your bike at main tourist attractions (like the Karls bridge), go back to as many police stations as you can and give the pictures and your contact details .... anyway that is what I tried in Damascus (Syria) in 2010 when somebody stole my bike.

Good luck
mika

+1.

A mix of newsworthyness and some embarrassment for the local population/political scene should encourage the police to "try harder" and it will rally the locals who ride to take an interest.

Bastards! I hope you get it back.

I was there 20 years ago and the gypsys were the main culprit back then, but it was mainly cars, with people traveling with bikes that cost as much as cars but easy to transport away you can see why they have move over to bikes,

Argh that's so bad!! I'm continuing my ride through Eastern Europe this year and you've confirmed my worst fear. What kind of chain did you lock it up with?

Road Hog 18 Feb 2016 21:32

Heading that way in May, Only thing to do is be vigilant and try to find good parking. With a cordless grinder and cutoff wheel you can cut a 3/4 inch cable in seconds.
My question, is there any insurance available in Europe that would cover the bike outside of the EU. All I have had in my travels was liability coverage and that would only cover one or a few countries.

Czech is in the eu so many UK insurance companies will cover the bike to the same level of cover as in the UK for 90 days. Otherwise it's third party only. No chance at all of getting theft cover for countries outside the EU. Not from UK companies anyway.
