schengen visa application from within the UK

I am looking to apply for a schengen visa for a non EU citizen who is a UK residence so applying within the UK

What country/embassy is the easiest to apply at within the UK and i take it even if we put dates down for 2 weeks on the chosen country within the schengen zone will we get a 6 month multi entry visa for all schengen zone or will we just get a visa for the country we applied at with dates set only for travel time we put down?

Not 100% info on this ; have heard France / Germany are quickest and least painful. Also I may be corrected on this, ( memories from a few years ago) but my understanding is "applicant" must enter the country first which issued the visa, this being correct may have an influence on your decision.

Thanks for reply, yes i looked at the Germany schengen visa requirements which seem very easy and straight forward compared to others but we have no plans to visit Germany first as per the requirements, our first country would be entering France (via euro tunnel on a bike) so will probably apply for a french schengen visa then as it is the first country.

Are all schengen visa's issued for a set time scale, like 6 months ?

Wez I can't remember to be honest it was a while ago I had dealings with it all to assist a friend. I don't need it myself. I think it might be valid for 6 months for travel of no more than 90 days in that 6 month period. ( for tourist visa ) I'm sure its all online somewhere.

First step to getting the right advice is what passport are you using? Some nationalities MUST get a via back in their home country.

Next question - have you checked with UK Home Office (or whatever) to see if your UK status allows free entry into the rest of Europe.
