Anyone have experience with ferries from mainland Italy to Sardinia, Sardinia to Corsica and Corsica to Nice, France.
April/May time what's the regularity of ferries and are bikes catered for? |

Hi Dave!
Moby Lines and Corsica-Sardinia Ferries are the most common lines. http://www.mobylines.com Corsica ferry and sardinia ferry - The shipping company Corsica Ferries I usually take the ferry leaving from Livorno to Olbia in Sardegna. It's also possible to go to Corsica from Livorno. You can book online in advance. The price for one way with your bike in a cabin is around € 100,- The Ferry leaves at around 9:00 pm and arrives around 8:00 am. The staff is very professional in handling the bikes. You can also go from Genova to Corsica and Sardegna. Best time for the islands to go is April, Mai, September and October. regards Steven |
We did Corsica in 2011, four bikes, Livorno to Bastia with Corsica ferries. I pre-booked on internet to be safe but even there in the port tickets were still available at the same price (at least for motorcyclists). It take about 4+ hours on that route. On the way back we took a boat that leaves around midnight and gets to Livorno early morning.
Corsica in my opinion is even mor attractive than Sardinia. Steep, curvy roads and loads of views. Be careful fo turists driving RVs. have fun Fred |

Ferries between Sardinia and Corsica and Marseille were well set up for bikes. One provided tied-downs and the crew did the tying down, the other had specially made hinged brackets that come down from the wall and straddle the seat of the bike and a tie-down that then goes to a ring on the floor. Again, the crew did the securing of the bike. I didn't book any of the ferries in advance. There is more info and perhaps photos on my blog Old Farts on a Bike to Turkey I hope this helps. |
