Romania - Ukraine border crossing
 

Has anyone used the Halmeu - Nevetlenfolu or Sighetu Marmatiei - Solotvino border crossings from Romania to Ukraine recently? I hope to cross at one of them in a few weeks time, and it would be good to know if one is better then the other, or if there are any particular problems to look out for.

Im also interested in the road quality between the border and Kiiv, if any has been along it recently.

I crossed Halmeu - Nevetlenfolu a couple year ago. Road from border to Mukachevo is awful. From Mukachevo to Kiev - good.

If you cross Sighetu Marmatiei - Solotvino you have to posibilities to get to Kiev:
1) to get to Mukachevo and then Mukachevo-Kiev
2) Get to Ivano-Frankivsk (bad road, but not awful road), then Ivano-Frankivsk-Lviv-Kiev - good road.

I crossed from Romania into Ukraine a couple of months ago at the E85 highway border crossing.

This is the roadway that leads north to Chortkov.

It took forever to get through that crossing - there were only about 35 cars backed up trying to get into Ukraine, but it took 5 hours for the Ukrainian authorities to process all those cars.

Similarly, when I exited Ukraine a week later on the A4 (between Lviv & Krakow), it took another 3 hours to go through Ukrainian formalities on the way out of the country.

So: Leave yourself lots & lots of time, and hope you don't have to cross a Ukrainian border on a rainy day.

No problems. About an hour. Quaint wooden Bridge.

2018 at the border Sigheti Marmaretu the Ukrainians were very korrupt.

2019 same border no problem.
