Romania Solo Motorcycle trip Sept

Hey guys,

I will be doing a solo motorcycle trip in Romania in September for 19 days. I have started to plan my route but am looking for any recommendations or info on places to visit. I want to explore as much as I can. Please if you have experience travelling in Romania let me know.

Cheers

Transfagarašan and, to a lesser extent, Transalpina are the obvious places to go.

I would heartily recommend the Semeni national parks in the southwest, close to the Serbian border.

Turda salt mine was really cool.

Brašov and Bran Castle are quite touristy but, well, for a good reason - they are very picturesque.

Romania

The painted monasteries up north are interesting.
Corvin Castle in Hunedoara is worth a stop including the local house designs and Motocare if you need supplies like chain lube etc.
Sibiu and Sigisoara are lovely cities to explore.

For camping: Babou Maramures is fantastic. He brews his own beer and bakes great sourdough in the morning. Local wood carvings are very impressive.

Camping Baleia was a pleasant experience and the owners are very helpful.

Sebes has Casa Iris a motocamp just outside of town where dinner can be planned and the facilities are excellent. Perfectly flat lot for tents.

MotoCamp Sibiu is another wonderful landing place with rooms and cabins with a couple tent spots. Duro is very helpful for motorcycle travelers. Beers are cold!

Of course the famous mountain roads are not to be missed but watch for bears.

I will be returning in September to continue my explorations as the 10 days I spent already was not enough!

As you may have heard, an Italian motorcyclist was killed by a bear on the Transfagarasan earlier this month, having stopped to take a selfie with them by the road. Tourists have fed them in the past, so they have no fear of humans and they are large, powerful wild animals. Be warned!
