Realistic Time Frame Nordkapp
 

Hey folks,

Currently planning our motorcycle trip for this year and we’re currently looking at riding to Nordkapp via Sweden and then returning via Norway. Loose plan is to get the bike to Copenhagen where I’ll store it for a few days and then fly out and pick it up to set off for Nordkapp.

Has anyone done this route and can give me a ball park time of how many days it took? Looking at the maps it’s roughly 2400 Kms. I don’t mind having a few long days in the saddle to get there. The return leg we’ll take it steady and spend some down time in the towns and villages along the Atlantic Road. Hoping it’s doable as we’ve pretty much done Most of Europe over the last 12/13 years and want to visit somewhere totally different.

Do you just care about getting there? Then trust Google Maps. Copenhagen to Nordkapp via the Baltic coast, Stockholm and Kolari is 29 hours of riding time, right now in winter.

Day 1, CPH to Umea.
Day 2, Umea to Muonio.
Day 3, Muonio to Nordkapp.

All long days but uncomplicated rides. If you have spare time, ride through the middle of Sweden rather than the coast.

This is the route through the middle of Sweden, mentioned above.
It takes a couple of hours more. 31 hours. Around 80 km/h as average.
Which is realistic. Mainly 70,90,100 and 110 km/h as speed limit.

This route is much more scenic

8 driving hour per day => 4 days.
6 => 5 days

In summer time. The days are looooong in this area.

This route is definitely doable. No problem.

The route I'm planning this year, subject to border restrictions, will be Calais, through the Baltic states to Finland, then up to the Nordkapp. Returning via the Norwegian coastline and diverting to Iceland and the Faroes en route. By my calculation that's around 7,500 miles and 60 days, probably spending a couple of days in each of the national capitals as I go. You could do it faster of course, but then you'd just be seeing a lot of motorways.

As I've written in Nordkapp threads before... if you are going all the way up Finland, consider the overnight car-train to Kolari/Rovaniemi. It's about ~250 EUR one-way including a private cabin with a shower (other cabins/seats are available but IMO not worthwhile), and you save two days' boring ride, gas, wear and tear, meals and hotels.
