Pyrenees in May

Planning a trip to the Pyrenees in late May. Travelling from Blackpool in the Uk to Dover, crossing the channel, then heading to the Millau bridge. Heading to the Med and then following the Pyrenees to the Atlantic, then back again. This trip was planned with my mates all through the winter, now they have all backed out so I am off on my own (they think I will not do it). Why do some bikers think that their bikes are just for a Sunday at the cafe.
I will be taking in it fairly steady on my Bonneville, so if anyone on this site has any advice I would welcome it, will be either camping or B&B, see how it goes. If anyone is in the area at the time it would be good to meet up.
Great site this, love reading the stories.

Know of a fair few camping/B&B's down this way ... if you're in the area during a weekend, PM me .. might have a friend with his Triumph heading down in May too, knows some good routes now!

Good on you Steve...Mates..you can`t live with them...you can`t live without them...Oh that`s women isn`t it...well they sound similar for ducking out anyway.

You go and enjoy yourself. I can`t help with sites etc but my tip is to make sure you have good recovery insurance and a list of Ryanair airports to get you back.

Have a good trip and post pics on here.

I'm also planning a trip in May. I have a work conference in Switzerland 18-22 and rather than fly, I figure I will ride from London. I want to spend the 15-17th riding through the Netherlands (windmills, tulips and dykes... tee hee) and then down through to the Black Forest and then Switzerland. On the other end of the conference I want to spend 23-27 May travelling across France, millau bridge and then across the Pyrenees, returning to the UK via the Santander ferry. I plan to avoid highways most of the time. If our itineraries cross paths then it would be cool to connect - for a beer at the very least.

Why????? Whether it's an Hinkley or Meriden Bonneville either would take the trip in thier stride.

Looking up thedodger's profile I see that he rides a 2005 Bonnie. I expect it would be very reliable. Every bit as reliable as my '08 Tiger - maybe moreso.

Tips....use ViaMichelin: Maps, route planner, route finder, UK maps, European maps, hotel booking, travel guides and on the homepage at `Driving Directions` fill in where you want to go. It is quite accurate in respect of ride times and will give a varianceof routes from autoroute to no autoroute etc. It`ll also give you approx fuel and toll costs.Other links that appear on the page will be cafes, hotels etc.
If you get to Millau it`s better to have a wee peep at it first from underneath rather than rid eover it as its `just a long road`when you`re actually on it!!....when underneath you get to see it in its full magnitude.
If you ride from the Med towards my neck of the woods try to avoid Lourdes unless you have to go there for a perosnal reason...it really is gray busy and an obscene tourist trap...IMHO.
Depending on timings etc choose any route from the above listed website that has a road highlited in green. This`ll be a scenic route and will be...erm...quite scenic indeed!!
If you want, advice can be given,on a route, from my neck of the woods to Sanatander or over towards Biarritz on teh Atlantic side.
As an aside,if you pass a car here, which will invariably move over to let you pass, dip your right foot out as you pass,as a `thank you wave`...

Expect the weather to be warm, where I live anyway...with the odd shower thrown in...

Enjoy your time here...it really is a pleasure to scoot about the roads here.

regards

Hello,

If all goes to plan we'll be heading out via Millau to start our RTW trip. Leaving UK via the tunnel on May 24th, due in Millau on the 26th then turning left towards Monaco.
