Pyrenees in April?

A mate and I are planning a 1 week trip, over Easter weekend. We have ferries booked from Plymouth and returning via Santander. Mark will be on his DRZ and I now have a G650X which is much nicer than the CCM604 I rode to the HUMM. We would like to take in some off-road while we are away and were thinking of camping in or near Llavorsi, mainly as we know there are plenty of trails. It then occurred to me that this is still the Pyrenees ski season.

Is the weather going to be too bad for camping. Will the trails blocked by snow? Is there another region which will allow us to go off road with better weather? Am I just being soft?...

Answers (on a postcard?) please.

Did the pyrenees at that time about 5 years ago - didnt see any snow as it Pxxxed down the whole time :(and i mean wetter than a bag of wet things :stormy:
and i stacked the bandit on a diesel slick so any trip you are planning has got to be better than my one .
Still i had the last laugh cos i got a nice warm hire car to drive home while it pxxxed down on my mates all the way back to cherbourg :innocent:
Nice roads though :thumbup1:

I've been in May and there's still snow on the top. There'll be more in April I guess but I doubt it would be a problem and you can always drop down to lower altitudes.

Hi Rossi...from fellow Cornish rider.Have done a lot of Spain via Santander.
Quick answer is you can be lucky or you can get all sorts.I've been in Panticosa (nr Jaca ) snowboarding and it's 23 degrees in the valley. But it WILL be cold at night
Local papers all give good weather coverage with symbols.Read them free in a bar.

i did some of the pyrenees last april & yes it was cold at the top but perfectly rideable. i stayed on tarmac though but didnt actually see that much snow, just plently of rain.
im doing it again this year though as the bloody bike broke & i want to see the rest of it.

I think we will play it safe and stay out of the high mountains. The area SE of Pamplona looks to have some good riding so we will head down there instead. Bardenas Real looks like a good place and I have found a load of gps tracks for 4x4 and atv trails on Wikiloc. The wonders of modern technology - topo maps, satelite pics, photos and gps routes staight to your computer. Dertainly a bit different to route planning a few years ago.
