Prettiest, quietest region in Netherlands
 

Hello, I am coming to the Netherlands in mid-June, arriving in Rotterdam airport, and exiting to Belgium (overland) afterwards. It will be a 3-4 week trip. I am planning to visit Rotterdam (mainly for the Kinderdjik area (cycling), The Hague, and Amsterdam.

As well as all the places around, and in between, again mainly for quiet, countryside cycling, nature, and cute houses.

I know Netherlands can be very densely populated, so I am planning to stay put in Amsterdam for 2 weeks (to really get to know the place, and spend the rest of time cycling with focus on nature, photography, and scenery).

I am planning several day trips from Amsterdam, as well as multi-day trips to more distant destinations around the country (but only if it's worth it). This is something I need advice on.

My question is, what part of the country should I focus on for the most beautiful scenery, cycling passed windmills (but not with any tour buses, just quiet cyclists). I have heard good things about Friesland, perhaps that is the province most suitable for my needs?

Ah , yess , Friesland , or as the folks north of the Tjonger insist it be called Fryslan.

You will love the province for bicycling, and for starters I recommend taking the train with your bike along from Amsterdam . Buy a ticket to Wolvega and get on the bicycle there In the area there are lots of dedicated paved bicycle trails ,.
