Norway - Bergen to Stavanger
Hi all, I am planning a Scandinavian trip (ferry to Esbjerg then Copenhagen-Gothenburg-Oslo-Bergen-Kristiansand-Hirtshals-Esbjerg) and all seems quite straightforward except the bit between Bergen and Stavanger. Looking at the map, there seems to be loads of ferry crossings or long windy roads (we've got 2-3 days to cover this section - in a straight line it seems to be only about 100 miles). Any advice on routes, costs of ferries, cool campsites etc appreciated...

This is a beautiful part of Norway. I went this way a few years ago but sadly I don’t have my maps here, my suggestion would be something like:
Go east from Bergen, follow RV7 on the north side of Hardangerfjorden (nice scenery). a) Ferry from Kvandal to Utne then drive to Odda Or b) Ferry from Brimnes to Bruravik then up Mabødalen (beautiful valley) up to Vøringsfossen (nice waterfall vith great views), turn around and go to Odda via RV13 Go west from Odda (551), you are know close to Folgefonna (glacier) After a while you will have Hardangerfjorden on your right side, continue driving south (can’t remember the roadnumbers). You will pass this: Baroniet Rosendal - the Manor from 1665 between fjord, glacier, mountain and waterfall which is pretty nice. This is not the shortest route, but it’s a nice one. There are some ferries along the way, most of them are short and leave pretty often. Drive to the start of the queue (if you are on a motorbike). Norway - new route
Hi BikeGrrl, Ali Baba gives good directions, but there is so much geography to gawp at that you are going to have a time problem. The Preikestolen (Pulpit) is a rock feature with a clear 600 m to the Lysefjord below, side road at Jøssang when you come south on Rv 13 . It’s a 2 hour trek from Preikestolhytta, where you must park. Further in the fjord is Kjerag, 1000 m straight down – base jumpers all summer, but difficult to get to. There is a ferry from Oanes to Lysebotn. You could take the summer gravel roads over the mountains from Lysebotn – Suleskar – Rysstad and south on Rv 9 to Kr.sand. These roads are usually open, sometimes a toll, and will make your journey a lot shorter, but harder work. Hans P has written the Norway Guide.
