Motorcycle rental in Sicily
 

Going to be going to Italy (Taormina) for a week in June, thinking about renting a bike for a day or two, so some questions:

1) Is this a good idea? I have never been to Italy, or western Europe in general so would it be time/money better spent just getting around on foot and public transport?

2) Vespa or bigger bike? Seems like Vespas can be rented for super cheap. I'll be traveling with my GF so likely some 2-up duty will be involved. My simple view is roughly like this: Vespa if we are only looking to get around Taormina, something bigger if we want to go farther away. Any must-see things that are further than a scooter ride away?

3) Any specific places to rent in/around Taormina that are good and easy to access via public transport? May spend a few days in Catania, so any places there would also be good.
