Motorcycle Registration by proxy in Italy
I've come across a company called Mototouring based in Milan that offer to register motorcycles for non-residents in their company's name. The non-resident then uses it at will with the "permission" of Mototouring. One pays a daily storage fee and annual admin fee.
It seems a good way for non-EU residents to keep an insured bike in Europe and for UK residents to avoid riding back to the UK every year for an MOT. Has anyone done this? There seems to be a rule in the Italian Highway Code (Article 94, Para 4 bis) that may exclude use for more than 30 days. I'm not sure what time period is needed for that clock to reset. |
Mrs Trip and I have stored our US plated bikes with Mototouring a couple of times between trips. Very nice people.

If you purchase an Italian bike and register Mototouring as the owner they will need to tax and (comprehensively) insure the bike in order for you to use it - very expensive! A much cheaper option is for you to store your UK plated bike with them and purchase Green Card insurance (through Mototouring) for each period of use. Annual MOT is irrelevant if the bike stays outside the UK.
