Mediteranean Europe in October

I am a Canadian travelling for a month with 3 Swiss down to Turkey in October, and was wondering which route is better at that time of year...from Switzerland down through Romania, Bulgara, to Turkey and back up along the Mediterranean coast, or down the coast, over into Turkey, and back up through Greece and Italy??

Thanks for your help,

Amanda

Hi,
there is a lot of must-ride roads in surrounding of area you mentioned. Seems to me as better opinion your first, especialy through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and finaly Turkey, but count on possibility of bad weather in October, that could be late season for motorbiking. Depends on luck. Do also ride along the coast in Croatia, from Rijeka to Dubrovnik and Montenegro. Avoid Albania and Kosovo if possible, there are no spacial risks in other mentioned countries, except those two.

Hi,
do you think on asphalt roads or macadam?

On asphalt mostly. If we didn't have all the gear to worry about, we'd definetly be up for a little more of a challenge!

Do you have any specifics for me?

Hi,
there is a lot of interesting roads, but try to conect line from Slovenia through Predil pass or Kranjska gora, then along Soca river in Slovenia ( go on Mangart mountain road nearby Predil ), then through Istria in Croatia to Rijeka, and along the coast all the way to Dubrovnik. If weather allows you try to climb on Velebit mountain ( several interesting roads and nature realy worth seeing, combination of asphalt and good macadam ) and also go to Biokovo road up to top of the mountain, it is asphalt road. From top of mountain you can see half of mediterian islands and sea. You can stop in several Parks of Nature in Croatia: North Velebit, Paklenica, Krka river, all of them are along your way ). Continue to Montenegro, small country with twisty and curvy roads, and than toward Serbia via Podgorica and Prijepolje. For further ask someone from their Community. If you have enough time, visit some of bigger croatian islands, ferry lines are widely spread.
Depends on time to spend, you can make very interesting vacation in mentioned area.
Regards,
AnteK
