I plan to visit Lapland coming August.
Any good wild places to visit? offroading there? any gps track?

Just one piece of advice - carry a mosquito net!

I have travelled to just about every corner of this globe and all other mossies pale into insignificance when compared to the Lapland mossies. :scared:

Hi

If your going all the way to lapland you should consider visiting Abisko or "kungsleden" I did some hiking there some time ago and its lovely. Also you should visit kiruna and "trestegåset" basically its were norway sweden and finland meet , nothing to exiting but fun.

While your up there head towards Norway and Narvik , there you will have some spectacular scenery , bloody amazing :Dand great roads driving up and down the fjords your really should not miss that mate, and wile your there have yourself a piece of whale steak if you fancy that.

I'm traveling to Norway in August. One route I'm considering is north from oslo to Gerainger then on to Trondheim and up to the Arctic Highway from Mo-I-Rana to Kirknees.

Becareful of speed traps in Norway, their fines are very high. On the E6 north of Trondheim I saw a few speed traps, and got caught by one. For going 79kmh in a 60kmh zone I got fined the equivelent of 380 UK£, which back then was about 500 euros. Lots of sections of that road with inexplicably low speed limits.

The most impressive scenery is in central Norway around Bergen, the fjords there are incredible. The scenery in the North is less dramatic but still very magical. Most tranquil of all is Finland - All forests and lakes, but like someone said the Mozzies are something else!!

If you decide to go North from Lappland into Norway, the old main road between Kautokeino and Alta is supposedly an 110 km adventure. It was closed in the 60ies and have not been maintained since, but AFAIK it is still legal and passable if you are in for a little off roading. I have sent a mail to the local tourist office for more info, I'll post when / if I get a reply. I know I saw a GPS file somewhere on the web the other day, but...

The E6 over the mountain south of Trondheim is perhaps the worst speed trap of them all, as it is so empty and wide open. Just begs you to twist the throttle. But you don't want to ride it anyway. :funmeterno: Much nicer further west.

There it was, all the way across the big pond - thanks! No reply yet from the tourist office (maybe they don't want tourists?), so I guess we have to trust Øyvinds claim that it is legal.

PS Jeez, hairy ending to that video! Quite a warning not to relax. Did the rider and bike survive ok? Any way around that missing bridge?
