Insurance for Turkey?
 

hello there,
I am ready to cross the border from Greece to Turkey, just a quick question:
do my UK insurance cover me in Turkey or shall I buy cover? At the border? Or once in the Country?
It is something I actually forgot to check....
any advice is appreciated, I will be crossing tomorrow.

I am leaving Ireland on Sunday heading for Turkey, When I spoke with my Insurance company here they told me that my Insurance will cover me for Turkey.
Where have you travelled from ? What is the weather like there at the moment ?

No worries...even if it doesn't, the Turkish insurance is a couple Euro for a couple weeks....dirt cheap.

You will pick it up at the border.

the weather is a bit "unfair" at the moment.
I am on the east side of Greece now. Not cold, 8 degrees now in Alexandroupolis 10pm while I am writing, it is a constant rain, not heavy but the kind of light showers you would expect to last forever...
There is a great brand new motorway (A2) that wasnt on my map, highly recommended if you want to go through fast some mountain bits.
The day before yesterday it was snowing in the Grevena-Kozani area, luckily for me the day after turned out to be a super sunny day, after Thessaloniki no snow-related problems as the altitude drops. If you want to avoid the danger of the snow once in Iannina follow the signposts for the A2 which is not yet completed but it will save you some icy bits. i believe the A2 goes straight to Istanbul.
There ARENT any petrol stations on the A2, make sure you refuel when you have the chance.

i was insured with bennett when i was in the UK and they did not cover Turkiye. So, I bought a Turkish insurance when i entered Turkiye by my bike at the Turkish-Greece border on 2006. cost me app. 10 euros. there was a insurance company where the free shops are, called Isvicre Sigorta. took only 5 minutes, have cash and change.

Turkiye is cold and wet at the moment. take care.

The link you sent I cant open ! I am going to get the same ferry from Venice, How much did it cost ? And how long was the sailing ?
When i get to greece i was going to travel the E90 heading for Kesan, not travelling all the way to Istanbul maybe head south near Cannakale :confused1: my destination is Alanya.

We crossed Turkey in October, and our bike insurance (from Finland) covers all Green Card countries, and Turkey as well as Iran, is on that list, so I believe ours wouldve been valid.

BTW, if your heading into Turkey from any of the Greek islands, beware of some rip-off ferry prices. We went from Thessaloniki to Lesvos (15 hrs) and that was cheap, but then from Lesvos to Dikili (Greece - Turkey), which only took about 90 minutes, the price was almost the same. Sounds logical, right??

Their explanation was that its a return ticket (which we didnt want, so they offered a 1-way ticket, at the SAME PRICE!!) What a bunch of jokers. Costar Lines was the name of the company, I will avoid them from now on, and recommend everyone else do the same.

the tıcket for Anek Lınes can be bought onlıne up to the day before. It costs 50euro for passenger and 29euros for the bıke. Brıng your own tıestraps wıth you.
170km ıs ok there are exıts for petrol statıon every now and then.

forgot to say: as ozhanu saıd the ınsurance offıce ıs ınsıde the buıldıng ın the Turkısh sıde, ınsurance for the XTZ660 mınımum 3 months was 5 euro and took 5 mınutes. They had change ın euro.

I am going to get the ferry wednesday @ 19.00 do you have to prebook or can you pay and book when you arrive at the port ? It gets in @ 21.00 Thursday did you stay in Igoumensita ? that night can you recommend some place ?

I decıded to take the ferry eıther Sat or Sun because they leave Venıce at 12noon and arrıve ın Igoumenıtsa at 14.00 (26 hours) so you have almost half day to rıde.
Igoumenıtsa looked quıte deserted when I was there I dıdnt ınvestıgate but I suppose there wıll be some sort of accommodatıon seeıng the have the ferry termınal.
I would recommend to leave on the weekend otherwıse you wıll have to pay on top of the ferry fares also the nıght ın hotel leavıng zero km on the clock.

I dont know about buyıng the tıcket on the spot, ıf you buy ıt onlıne you have take the prıntout to the offıce next to the ferry and change ıt wıth the two tıckets (one for you and one for the bıke). Apparently they make you drıve the bıkes upstaırs but I asked to have mıne at ground (sea?) level as the steel surface was very slıppery and the bıke fully loaded and dıdnt want to make everybody laugh (I already had a spıll today on a motorway ın Turkey..... ıt was scary...).


By the way a pack of 20 cıgarettes ıs 1.90 euro on the ferry, the beer ıs cheapısh too.... the self-servıce ıs good, staff ıs not so frıendly.

Is everything ok after your accident ?? What happened ?? I am in France at the moment and heading south for Bordeaux I want to cross the Millau Viaduct.. I think maybe i will leave from Ancona there is a ferry from there Thursday evening at 19.00 and gets in next morning at 09.00 so will have a full day on the road,, how is the accomadation in Greece at the moment i am relying on my GPS to get hotels or lodging at night..
