Good place to stay in Istanbul
 

Hi all can anyone recomend a good place to stay in Istanbul as we are stopping off there for a few days whilst our Land Rover is in the container from Oz bound for the UK in April 2010?

Last year, I stood at LIZA HOTEL * * * ..., while motorcycling from Italy to Jordan.
Nothing special, but it was clean, there was a a very friendly staff, and it's at 15-minutes walk from the main sights of the city and from the restaurants' area.

I forgot the name of the place we stayed in (Sultan Hostel I think?), but in the Sultanahmet area you will find plenty of hostels to choose from, most with free web access and rooftop bars, plus it's within walking distance of most sights.

yep, i stayed a few days last year in a hostel in Sultanahmet .... would recommend staying there

If you head into Taxsim Square you will be spoilt for choice for somewhere to stay. There is a little block of hotels to the North side of the main square. Plenty of night life, if a little touristy.
