Getting a Russian transit visa in Kazakhstan

Hi all,
I wonder if you can help us!! We're looking to find out whether you can obtain a transit visa (easily and quickly) in Kazakhstan? We're crossing Russia - Kaz - Russia - Mongolia. We can easily get an auto-tourism visa for the first crossing in Russia, but as you can't hold 2 Russian visas at the same time, we wondered if anyone's ever tried to obtain a transit visa for the Kazakhstan-Mongolia crossing? If so, which cities have applicable consulates/embassies?
We are both British Passport holders since birth, and we are driving in our own British-registered vehicle.

thank you!

Russian transit visa

In Almaty you have to wait min. 7 days.
There is consulate in Uralsk (i didn't try it)
After all I did may transit visa (10 days no problem) in Osh (Kirgistan).
Friendly staff, fast( 4 days) and easy.

In August 2011 I got a transit visa in Oral (Uralsk) on the same day, very easy and friendly.

I would not however take this as a guarantee that you can get one.

Get a business visa before you leave. If you are unemployed you can either invent your own company, or just use your previous job details. They don't check. You only need to show that you have sufficient funds in your bank account. If you don't, get creative with photoshop etc, or borrow some funds for a few minutes from a friend.

Thanks Bartosz, it sounds like relying on getting a transit visa in Kaz'stan is a risky business... I think we'll try for a Humanitarian visa - we're having issues getting a business visa since we're not employed (even though many people say it's still possible, we're being blocked by agencies...)

Hi eurasiaoverland - it seems like you have a lot of really helpful advice, thank you so much for taking the time to help us!! :) we are sadly being blocked by VFS and RealRussia for getting a business visa, it looks like we'll need to get a Humanitarian visa, as by the sounds it's tricky to obtain a transit visa in Kaz'stan or elsewhere! :(

If you are somewhere on the road I think that you will not refuse transit visa.
But this is Russia and everything is possible.
After my few visit in Russia I prefer bussines visa now, it easier to travel.
But you are right it is difficult to discus with russian burocracy.

Russian Transit Visa in Uralsk

Hi,
I will be crossing Russia from Uralsk, Kazakhstan to Ukraina in 3 days and I wonder if it's possible to get a transit visa for Russia in Uralsk quickly.
Did somebody try that lately?
Is the transit visa date specific or do you have a few days to enter the country?
