France: Fuel protests Nov 2018
1 Attachment(s)
Wondering if anybody in France can drop a few words over the next week about the fuel protests and any likely impact it would have going Spain/Calais please?
I'm driving both ways in the next two weeks, normally just stick on the Paege Motorways and sleep in the motorway services areas and its not easy to get accurate info online with my level of French. The maps displayed in the rt snippet below show the protests are quite wide spread and shutting down motorways with larger action planned this weekend etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEIkG-PvRGM |
I was there this Saturday just gone when they started. Most of the large roads were blocked. Roundabouts were blocked and as a result a lot of fuel stations weren't easily accessible. It was supposed to be dying down but with it being a grassroots movement it seems like people are still carrying on and from the looks of things its turning a bit more aggressive. It was possible to find alternate routes around the blockades but there was a lot of backtracking.
Took me around 6 hours to complete what should have been a 2-3 hour journey. All the best |
The Foregn Office isn't saying avoid France but "to allow more time and follow the advice of authorities." It does mention keeping an eye on the ferries' website sites for info updates and alternative ferry routes if necessary.
Maybe Caen or LeHavre being a shorter journey would be better but whether more reliable who knows. The big protest was last Saturday but the protester's official site is promoting a week of blockages. Map I haven't read of fuel shortages - yet! Bonne route. |
