Hi,
This region is particulary popular with motorcyclists as you will find everything you looking for : nice villages, beautiful landscapes, cheap accomodation and food, good food, and of course curves.... I will recommand the south of Clermont Ferrand, around St Nectaire, Le Mont dore, Murol. I knwo also a good camping for bikers (called route 99) at St remy de Blot (north of Clermont). The village of Salers is also a must see. If you have time enough go south of Auvergne in the Cevennes as it's one of the wilder place in the country (more sheep than inhabitants). Be careful as somme places are very poor in gas... Hope you have a good time there see you laurent |
Saint Antonin Noble Val has to be one of the prettiest villages in France without a doubt, in fact the whole region is stunning. Lots of Knights Templar history in places like Najac and Albi.
Beautiful roads with fantastic twisties, you will love it. |
Thanks for that Kyrnos, when you say some places are poor in gas ,do you mean that petrol is difficult to get hold of or is poor quality.
Thanks Neil :thumbup1: |
There is also racing circuit at Clermont...Puy Mary area is supernice.
Puy Mary Grand Site - Cantal - France thou last time I was there it was a bit overcrowded with motorcyclists as France "Association of Angry Motorcyclists" was doing "free" sonometer check for whoever wanted it and some more activities. About gas - in France fuel stations in villages etc. do not accept foreign credit cards in automatic fill up system, you need attendant to be present at station to process your card. And most of those guys leave straight at 18:00, best 19:00 but that's rare. On weekends they mostly off completely. If this is case only option left for you is to get lucky and find station in some kind of town (and area you going is not that dense) or jump onto peage (toll) or some big highway and fill up in roadside "big" fuel station. Those are 24/7. Or remember to fill up before 18:00 But it is not specific to that region. To be honest in 2 loong ridearounds I did there (about week) I did not find it to be worse than Var or some other regions. Fuel quality never was problem to be honest. Only availability. |
Anywhere there is good - try the D996, down towards Lac Chambon, The main road out of Clermont is a scratchers dream, wide constant radius curves and banked if you take them from the right direction ...

For Auvergne, go to www.haute loire.com
(or something like that!) There's so much to see it's not possible to tell you enough. I previously put camping site info in the France section if you want a base...Pra de Mars campsite, ask for Eric, see the website given there. He speaks very good English if you dont speak French. Visit Les Gorges de la Loire (which the campsite is on; there's an HU sticker in the bar window)) and Mezenc Meygal. See Le Puy, Lavaudieu, La Chaise Dieu, Lempdes.. and many more. Enjoy fabulous roads all over the place. |
