Five bikes stolen in Lisieux France 21 April

Any help in spreading the word would be appreciated.

5 bikes stolen in Lisieux, France this morning...

5 Bikes stolen in Normandy France - ADVrider

The Berg 450 & 501 plus the DRZ are UK registered, the CCM & 690 are Irish registered, all of the owners are well known on the regular bike forums and are obviously gutted.

If anyone is able to help, especially with cross posting on French forums, it would be appreciated.

Lisieux is 65km south of Le Havre and 50km east of Caen.

Already posted on Bike Club France ( BikeClubFrance • Portal) by HU member Phil in France.

As all 5 seem to have been taken at the same time, were they in a transporter or van/trailer.?? any detail might be useful.

No further details other what is on the ADV site. Bikes were stolen from beside the individual tents of owners on a campsite. Apparently the tents were occupied at the time :taz: and bikes were stolen during the night. Three of the bikes were UK registered and two, Irish registered.

:confused1: Wow... Really bad news but this is quite a caper if they took five bikes from right next to the owners' tents, very strange.

This might force a rethink on our trip to Honfleur next month. Is it worth it? Might be safer looking for an hotel with secure parking.
It has never entered my head that someone would steal at a camp site, and all I was worried about was gas cooker and other easily transportable stuff NOT a bike. This is not good :(.
Hope they chop more than their hands off when they catch the bleep bleep bleep bleep.

Really sorry to hear this. I never camped in France but was at a few rallies where everyone camped. Never heard of any problems. At Hotels they almost ALWAYS had a Bodega or some sort of inner court yards. I felt safe enough ... but still put on my disc lock and locked the steering. So simple.

Very bold move to steal bikes next to tents. Such is the downside to ear plugs when camping. I often use them because at rallies or group sites noisy party goer's can keep going till 4 am. No way to sleep through that ... Ear plugs in, Sorted!
BUT ... you'd never hear anyone making off with your bike either, so there's the trade off.

We've had similar happen many times at campgrounds in places I ride dirt bikes. Mojave Desert. Thousand show up there on big holiday weekends. They come in big motorhomes and caravans. They all circle the wagons like settlers of old, 10 or 15 rigs will group up, big White Man fire, steaks on the Barbie .. as if all was well in Right Wing America.

Thieves quietly walk in at 3am and take their pick. Nothing locked up. Lots of kid's mini's get stolen and some very high end bikes too. Same happened in the Sierra at big Moto riding area campgrounds.

The cops and Rangers are well on to this now and set up road blocks (usually only ONE ROAD IN/OUT) and check VIN's/registration ... they've caught quite a few this way.

Still, at a public camp ground or big event ... I put my Disc lock on just for luck. Takes all of 30 seconds to lock up your bike.

Would it surprise anyone if the thieves turned out to be from the UK? :eek3: Since bike theft seems to be a key national industry there? :blushing:
And no customs check going back to UK. Easy Peasy.

How sh*t for these lads. I really feel for them.

I wear earplugs when camping, mainly because my mate snores like a Rhinoseros with a head cold and even pitching my tent 100yds away from his isn't enough.

I have a long cable lock that I use to lock our bikes together and usually leave a pile of clutter around and on the bike. The hope is that any theiving scum would take one look and think that it's too much trouble to bother.

(fingers crossed, eh)
