Europe 2016

I've been on the Hub some time. Looking for someone to join me in a trip to Spain and Portugal. Spring time, go down in May and come back in June. I can rent a flat in Portugal and know places to go.

The idea is. To travel down to Dover get an over night. Then an early crossing. Make my way down through France and Spain. Staying at cheap hotel's. The place is about 12/15 mile's from Faro up the coast. It take's three day's to get there with two over night stay's. One in France, and the other in Spain.

I'm in my late 60. Time is my own. Can stay as long as the flat is available. Any one interested, give me a shout.

Hi
Travelled back year before last through France and Spain as the ferries were full (santander and bilbao), never again, the cost in tolls was huge, the Spanish side don't recognise bikes so charge as a car and the French side was charging every five minutes due to the peage being upgraded. Take the ferry from Portsmouth, you will not regret it, especially if you can book an economie crossing.
Just a thought....... And if you take your own beers you can have a huge lash up with other bikers on the ferry, I rented out my spare bunk to someone who had one of those reclining chairs  for twenty quid.

I take it that was 2013. Since then I have been that way three time's traveling through France and Spain. Most of the time not paying any toll's. The only place you get stuck is from Bordeaux to Bayonne. Then it's not all toll's. Think, last time I did that bit, it cost me round about 5/10 euro's.

I trust my sat nav set at non toll road's and memory. Worked well for me. As for being charged for car's. Look for the pay booth that is manned. That way you get to pay the right price.

I must admit for the amount of times I've done that trip. I've looked at the UK, Spain ferry. Factoring in all the cost's. That for me would be an over night in Portsmouth. Depending what time the ferry spit's you out the other end, it could be another over night in Spain. So that's factoring in two over night hotel's. Then you have to get your self from either, Santander or Bilbao to Portugal. That's another over night.

So once you put that all in. To me it's a lot more than riding down. Any way. I'm not inclined to be stuck on a ferry for 24 hour's. If it turns rough on the way down, you can't get off. So to me the ride down is the best way.

why would you want to take the toll roads, the other A roads are just as good and more interesting and the fuel is cheaper as is the food

Hi Graham.

As I did not any response. I kind of made arrangement to take a long term friend. Which is a car and a trailer. Then ride when I'm there.

What did you have in mind?

Hi John
I am in a similar position to you and have the time to just take off on the bike, and will be at our place in the Sarthe, near Le Mans in May.

From your previous posts it appears your route to Spain takes you down the west side of France and you may have passed close to me and thought you might like some company for part of the trip. I would have to be back near Périgueux for a wedding the last weekend of May but other than that I was up for a ride south.

Only just registered for this forum as found a link on the BikersClubFrance.com website that I have been on for a few couple of years.
Just in case you thought it strange I only had one previous post I was thinking of meeting you prior to the trip as my mother aunt & sister live in Swaffham and I might be visiting them in the next few weeks.

PS.
the reason I did not PM my contact details yesterday was I did not have 3 posts
