EU trip 27 countries in 50 days

Hi guys This is my first thread to put up here after reading all trip-reports for the last few years. Im turning 50 in July so Im giving myself a present of a bike trip around Europe for 50 days. I just thought I would throw it up here and see what ye think, I will be starting on the 24th May and heading clockwise from the centre of Ireland and hopefully finishing back there 50 days later. Ive done 10 days around France before and a few 1500 mile trips around Ireland in 3 days so Im used to big miles if I have to. Ive worked it out roughly at around 200 miles per day but if i have to push it on I can do 400/600 if needed, the bike i will be using is an 01 ST 1100 pan, was hoping to change to a GS but funds wont stretch that far. So really why Im putting this post up is for advice on where to visit, where not to waist my time visiting, accommodation ect, I hope to using cheap hotels and camping a bit I have a budget of €40 for accommodation so a few nights camping can make up for a nice hotel now and then. Im open to all advice, any advice would be much appreciated and if I can join in on any ride outs or meetings somewhere along the trip that would be great . Feel free to comment Im open to changing the route if anyone has any suggestions

Hi Wheelo, by clockwise from (Athlone roughly?) do you mean- well what does that mean? I'm in Copenhagen and can point you in the general direction regarding this neck of the woods (fellow Paddy and all that). I turn 60 this year and taking off for a few weeks myself, although more Southerly for the weather. Definitely recommend you take in Denmark (flat as a pancake) and over to Sweden and most of all Norway and Capnord. Fantastic roads and scenery. Good luck!

Im so happy i dont have to do this trip. It must become a nightmare. If done fast traveling like this as a courier to earn money and spend maaaany hours waiting at boarders in the east http://schoene-motorradtouren.de/?re...nien_moldawien

I know the wonderfull area very well and have done wonderfull trips by bike there too but rushing through in just 50 days means just wasting time and money on the highway without seing anything or exploring the landscape.

Just exploring Scandinavia and riding up to the Nordcap would take more time if you want to enjoy it and see more then just the number of countrys.

If done wild camping in all Countrys of Europa no problem. Only once i had to pay 15 Euro fine to the police. One time out of 1000 in f*ing Germany...

Don't worry, you're leaving the union with "f*ing" Germany soon so it will csrtainly all be much better for you blokes. Always nice in travel forums to blame other countries fornot following their stupid rules....:-)

I have to admit that Germany is pretty big on stupid rules and the obtuse enforcement thereof. As a Brit living here I think I'm adequately qualified to make that statement!

(Still love the place but a few less signs with a red border and picture of a motorcycle would be nice.)

Hello mate,

Congrats on turning 50!

Norway is a must!

There are some cracking roads up here. You could do Uk to Norway in a couple of days.

Give me a shout as i'm in stavanger.

Meddy.

Ok 50 days till I head off on my big trip, weather starting to pick up so need to get out as often as I can to start building mileage up, leaving the bike for a few more weeks before sending it in to KCmotorbikes in Tullamore for a full going over and new tires. Still haven't finalised a definite route so Im sorted of going on a rough route as in the photo. I would like to do some sort of a blog while on the trip as well as reporting on there every few days on my progress, dose anyone know of a good blog app that I could use (user friendly) I've booked a few Airbnb for the first few days but dont what to book too far ahead just in case I change route or stay over longer in one place, I know they will get dearer as the peek months kick in but I still like the freedom as well, so thats it for now, I will check back in later

I think my experience when turning 50 was closer to 50 bottles of varying strength alcohol to blot out the memory.

Good luck with the trip. It does look like one hell of a long way though and if you blog it I for one will be interested in seeing how you get on. The last couple of times I tried blogging I used Google Blogger but I found it slightly awkward and believe me, at the end of a long tiring day on the bike you don't want anything that has any degree of awkward. There must be something really simple out there that someone must know .

You ought to consider starting the blog now to pull in your future followers!

Personally I'd be more likely to do a 50:50:50 trip (50 miles a day on a 50 on turning 50) but everyone to their own.

If you really want to max out the experience freedom experience of those 50 days You should not plan the trip too detailed. Just stay were you like, pass what you don't like. But don't stress yourself following a prefixed route, lanned down to every single day.

Europe is not out of reach in the future, you can always go back to a destination later, if you feel you missed something. And DON't leave out Scandinavia! :-)

+1000

I guess people have different travel styles, but I don't understand how people enjoy pre-planned trips. You have 50 days, a starting point, and an ending point. Pick out a few key destinations in between, and just see what happens. 27 countries, 25, 23, 15, who cares?

And I almost never pick out hotels in advance, I try to just roll into whatever town I picked that morning and find a hotel that looks inviting. This can be difficult if you're in European resort areas in August, etc., but generally it is very easy to do as long as you end your riding fairly early, which also give you time to explore whatever town you've arrived in. I've also learned to avoid big cities to the extent possible--too big to see much, more expensive, generally more hassle, harder to meet people.

I found the Wordpress app to be easy to manage from my phone on the road.

Congrats on 50!

My advice is to make sure to drop by Turkey and Greece if you can.

Magnificent countries.
