daily travel cost europe

Hi Europe riders,
has anybody of you made a kind of accounting or statistics about their travel cost in Europe, particularly western&southern europe?
I've been asked how much it would be and could not answer. It should be hotels and not the low-low budget ones. I roughly guessed some 150 EUR daily for 2 persons on one bike. Would be great if anybody had an idea.
Thanks & best regards
Winfried

I would say that 150E for 2 is a minimum figure if you are going to be eating out and don't want to stay in budget hotels, but you probably aren't far off the mark.

Hi, I travelled 4000 miles around Europe last year over 18 days and my total bill for the lot inc ferries from Ireland to Scotland, England to France, Norway to Scotland and then home was not in excess of £1500.00. That also included 2 nights Formule1 in France all campsites, a great hotel in North Germany and a great Motel in Norway (which was £80.00 per night!!!!).

Hi
I can only offer suggestions on hotels and ferries, there are some links on www.4x4-travel.co.uk to the websites. You can price any of the hotels online. Novotel in particular offer some good deals in both England and France. Villages Hotels are more low budget but still comfortable on the whole.

Winfried:

The answer you are going to get for your question will vary all over the map - it's kind of like asking "How much money do you spend on food - housing - travel each year in your home country?"

I spend about 60 days on the road every summer in Central and Western Europe. I don't drink, I stay in clean but simple hotels, and I ride a Honda ST1100 (it uses a fair amount of fuel). My average daily cost for everything (food, lodging, fuel, entertainment) is about €100 a day.

Don't forget to budget for motorcycle maintenance, especially for tires if you plan to travel more than 10,000 km. It generally costs me about €500 every 10,000 km for a new set of tires (this includes labour to install them) - that is not an insignificant expense.

I should add that I avoid big cities. I don't particularly like them in the first place, and I find that if I overnight in a big city (more than one million population), my hotel cost alone is going to be close to €100 a night.

Sure, there are cheaper hotels in big cities, but most of the cheaper hotels don't offer locked parking to store the motorcycle in. I have found that the best way of economizing without dropping hotel standards is to stay in small communities, rather than in medium or large cities.
