Crossing Ukraine This week?

Poland-Ukraine-Russia Crossing I really want to cross northern/central Ukraine later this week, to avoid traveling above Belarus, in Lithuania/Latvia, to return to southern route across Russia on way to Mongolia.

Is there anybody else in the area interested in traveling across with me?
Or does absolutely everyone think this is a really really bad idea.

I think others have done it recently without incident.

Hello!

When are you travelling?

If you stay in northen Ukraine I think you would be fine, there is a recent thread on here somewhere about it!

What route are you taking to Mongolia?

I'm currently in Moscow on my Transalp I drove from the UK

will be heading volvograd later this week before heading to the stans!

There are no problems with crossing through northern Ukraine now. I just came through in the past week.

I entered from Russia (west of Kursk) and drove directly to Kiev. You wouldn't know that there are any problems in the country when you are in Kiev (except for the very quiet protest camp on the Maidan).

From Kiev, I drove west to Rivne/Klevan and then south to Kamenets-Podolsky and across into Romania.

The north and west of Ukraine are very quiet and peaceful. Nothing to worry about at all.

If you are coming the other way, just travel via Lviv to Kiev and then to Kursk in Russia and you'll avoid any of the areas currently having problems.

That 'protest' in Maidan has been there for quite a while, last year there was an area of tents and protesters there too. Just in case the reference to it puts anyone off!!

Agreed. The pro-EU 'campers' in the Maidan are now more of a tourist attraction than a threat to anyone.

I saw quite a difference between my first visit in April and my visit last week. The area covered by the protestor tents has been reduced and the government has begun re-paving the areas where the stones were ripped up and thrown at the Berkut police.

Definitely no reason to avoid Kiev.

HI Jamie,
I am somewhat flexible But will spend a couple of days in Krakow before heading into Ukraine. I had not thought of the Stans as I did not prep with Visas but open for ideas. Thanks for the info. Needed that confirmation. Let me know if you want to hook up. Mongolia when I get there.
