Camping in Austria (Tirol)
I'll be in the Western Austria/The Tirol for a few days at the end of June. I'd like to stop on a small site with basic facilities (i.e. shower, water, etc.) - something like the smaller French municipal sites.
Does anyone have any first hand recommendations? Thanks, Jim |
Its not a small site any more, but the facilities are excellent, and just outside Innsbruck its handy for almost anywhere.
The site is called Natterer See, it has a swimming lake and a restaurant, and fantastic tent pitches. We have used this site on a number of visits and would definately re-visit. A smaller site near the village of Fugen in the Zillertall valley looks nice, good location, but have never camped there we stay in a hotel in the village. |
I can recommend Camp Krissmer in Otztal. Its on the road to Timmelsjoch and Jaufenpass. www.oetztal-camp.com

Thanks guys, I'll have a closer look :thumbup1:

We stayed at Natterer See a few years ago. A lovely campsite (even if the swimming lake was bl**dy freezing) but, as you say, it wouldn't really come into the category of small and basic. There were far more camper vans there than tents when we visited. Some years earlier we used a campsite in Zirl (a few miles west of Innsbruck and on the river) which was a bit closer to the French municipal style. There's a couple of them in /near the town and I can't remember which we used. I have a sticker from the place on a pannier and I'll have a look later. |

Sorry about the delay, the panniers weren't where I thought I'd left them. The campsite is in Unterperfuss, which is on the other side of the river from Zirl and about 6-7 miles west of Innsbruck. It's called "Farm-Camping" and while it isn't quite stick your tent up in the cowshed, when we were there 8-9 yrs ago it was good French municipal site std.
