Buying a bike in Lithuania

I am going to Anykščiai, Lithuania for August Bank Holiday and thinking of making a little European tour out of it. I have 3 weeks to play with. My first thought was to ride there and back from UK, going fairly directly through Netherlands, Germany and Poland, spend a couple of days with friends exploring Lithuania, then amble back south through Slovakia, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, France, about 3600 miles.

Although that's easily do-able (averaging 200 miles/day), I started wondering if I could make more of the available time and see more of the eastern countries I've not visited previously by flying out and buying a bike while I'm out there. Would this be straightforward (it's all in the EU)? How easy is it going to be to find a suitable and affordable bike? My ideal would be something like a DRZ-400S, but I gather that's not widely available. Would I have any difficulties getting it registered/licenced/taxed/insured as a non-resident? And if I rode it back to the UK, how easy would it be to re-sell it or re-register it here?

Hi R.o.

I think you should be able to buy a motorcycle in Lithuania and drive it around Europe.

You could give a call to the register center in Lithuania REGITRA

Indeed there are not many drz400s available in Lithuania. You could check Auto transporto skelbimai. Auto dalys, padangos, KET - Autogidas.lt or Automobilių skelbimai, automobiliai ir motociklai kiekvienam | Autoplius.lt (these websites are available in English as well) for used motorcycles. Don't expect to buy a used motorcycle in very good condition. Many motorcycles are highmilage import motorcycles.

Good luck.

Any updates?

Hello, I know its been a while but any luck in figuring out if you can buy a motorcyle in Lithuania as a tourist.

Since the original post, the UK has left the EU, so a UK citizen would be a third-country visitor on a tourist visa waiver, and importing the bike into the UK would involve customs fees. So probably not a valid plan any more.
