number plate recognition is now built in to the ports but wether that would be quick enough to pick up unpaid fines as you left the country I don't know.

Incidently, customs and excise aren't very nice people to mess with! You probably won't get your bike back and if they think you are deliberatly avoiding duty you are looking at a court case, including a fine and potential jail term, and goodby to any future visa plans.

Doesn't apply to you so much but for europeans reading this, or for brits tavelling to europe the system for fines is now linked to the rest of europe so they will be forwarded to you, so sadly you now can't drive through france at a hundred miles an hour confident in the knowledge that the fines won't reach you! Above a certain speed, they will confiscate your vehicle and you will never get it back!

It's very simple mate, if one day they stop you (by chance) and you have unpaid fines they'll tow your bike and you're gonna have to pay a huge amount to get it back (plus the fines).
