Hi Arrow

I have just ordered the waterproof Reise map of Turkey from Omni Maps

Turkey maps from Omnimap.com, world's leading on-line map store.

I have used these before and they are very good. There are also other Turkish maps on the above link.

I like the Rough Guide series of maps, they're plastic paper so don't rip etc. Its a huge country so you might need two maps to cover it though.

Hi, thanks I'll follow both of those up............

Aha! I found this Reise one for entire Med coast
Turkey: Mediterranean Coast: Reise Know-How Verlag - Regional Road Maps & Atlases from Stanfords

Can anyone explain scales in inches/cm -> mile/km terms, ie. (I pasted the following and the board's formatting seems to have gone bold for anything typed afterwards as a consequence ;))
1:700,000
1:150,000

1:1,100,000 (17.4 miles to inch - I only know because rough map says so on cover :scooter:)

Which part of Turkey?

There are some good maps but;
- What part of the country will you be visiting?
- Will you be on main roads (asphalt) most of the time?

There are some local maps which would show the village roads. If you have time would be great to explore.

Than there are some interest groups which may direct yu to forest roads or paths.:funmeteryes:

If you have narrowed your visit to a spesific region ask them.

This is kinda why Britain should finish changing to metric!

1:700,000 is 1cm = 7km = 4.35 miles, so 1 inch = 11.05 miles
1:150,000 is 1cm = 1.5km = 0.93 miles, so 1 inch = 2.36 miles

I have this map too, and generally its pretty good. No issues in Western Turkey, but further East it has room for improvement shall we say. This concerns accuracy and level of detail, but more importantly there is no border crossing to Iran directly east of Van, so save yourself the detour ;-)

Having said that, I wasnt able to find a better map at the time, and the material they are made of is very nice.
