Balkans Weather
Hi
I might be able to get my Balkans trip in, find out next week. Don't know how many weeks I will have yet. But might as well get sorted just in case! Does anyone have any first hand experience of the weather in the Balkans Area mid October to end of November. Mainly Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and possibly Montenegro, all time dependant. I have done the usual searches on Google (although the information is not very detailed) and apart from a bit of rain and low temperatures it seems ok? (added) It want to be ok and I want to see my tent as I don't have too much cash  Cheers Wayne |
October is usually fine. In November you can expect a rainy day now and then. At this time the winter rains get started slowly. But all in all it shouldn't be too bad.

Sounds good enough to me |
Sounds too late for me.:innocent: But, sometimes, man should just "blowin' in the wind":thumbup1:. I am not sure about camping. Probably closed in this time. Look for the hostels. Rain gear and warm clothes. Good luck.

Wet and cold. And if you decide to ride, you will have free bed near Skopje. As recognition.

Thanks again Wayne |
Near Adriatic weather will be fine (possibility of strong wind) . Inland everything is possible (rain, snow, sun) . Forget camping (most of the camp places will be closed anyway) .

Very wet at the moment in Slovenia and down the coast south from what I see on the weather maps, it should pass over in the next week. But then temperatures will be dropping from Saturday because of the cold air travelling down from Russia. This won't affect the Adriatic coast but will be cold at night inland or further east from the end of the week. 14 or 15c on the coast and between 4 and 7c further east some nights.
Aside from the Adriatic coast Greece would be a far better bet for the weather, down in the south - aside from isolated wet spells - it can remain O'k for camping until mid December. I made it until New Years Eve last year before temperatures dropped like a stone but they all thought I was mad because the storms moved in a couple of weeks earlier. Can't predict the weather any more these days. Last winter was worse than usual. |
Thanks for all the added info, looking forward to it. I have just under 8 weeks so I am not really sure how far down I will get before I have to start heading North again

Hi Wayne,
I agree most with Vaufi and Francs of course :thumbup1: If you stick to the coast and island you can experience great weather but also rain is possible. Be careful of the northern wind called Bura which blows in gusts and can move you to left lane in a second! Temps should be up to 15 degres cels. Inland you can experience more rain, lower temps and on some mountain passes even snow, so plan wisely. Let us know if you need any detailed info. Safe travels, Dooby |

I might even get to Zagreb, it been years since I was there, late 90's and we went to the airport after a stop in the city Wayne |
Central Bosnia and Durmitor can be cold (and it'll rain a lot). Weather prediction for Žabljak (Durmitor) : Žabljak Vreme za željeni mesec - AccuWeather vremenska prognoza za Žabljak Crna Gora (SR)

thanks Wayne |
I usually had snow in the mountains of Montenegro and Albania in last week of october first week of november. Above 1400 m in the mountains temps can be 0/-5 deg cels and with wind chill factor it can drop down even more.
Plan your ride smart, bring good kit with you, and make a b option in case of troubles. Post here or on your RR thread if you need any specific info, cheers Dooby |
