Azerbaijan customs deposit
Hi,
we are planning to ride from Georgia to Azerbaijan and then to Kazakhstan. We heard, the temporary importation of a car or motorcycle usually leads to the collection of deposits by the customs. I read a lot older articles and I really don't know what to believe now. Is that true and how much is this deposit? For motorcycle and Pickup. Thanks a lot for your help! |
I know it is valid for cars model year before 2015 and cars which doesn't have a EURO 4 standart. And valid for all motorcycles.
Some rumours say It seems it is off for motorcycles. Nobody is sure about that. I think better to ask Azerbaijan customs. http://customs.gov.az/en/ . PHONE +994 12 404-22-00 FAX +994 12 404-22-17 international@customs.gov.az https://www.facebook.com/azgomruk/ Please share their replies here so we all can know what is going on now ... Hope this helps |
Hi there,
went there last summer with 2 F 650 Dakar 03 models and didn't have to pay any customs or import for the bikes. Cheers Holger |
Reading their guidance leaflet, it appears that customs duties are payable only for residents wishing to import a vehicle.
http://customs.gov.az/modules/pdf/pd...13B-72A3FD.pdf Another source suggests there is no charge for transit, though it is limited to exactly 72 hours (or maybe 10-20 days? Not clear) Crossing Azerbaijan with own vehicle And yet another says up to 90 days no payment... https://caravanistan.com/transport/driving/azerbaijan/ And finally, from earlier this year: Quote:

contradictory info
An Azeri Consular Officer in DC emailed in response to my query: "you will have to pay customs fee and taxes of the vehicle which will be temporarily be in the territory of Azerbaijan. This fees will be returned to you when the vehicle will leave the territory of Azerbaijan." He cited Information for travelers | Customs service is one of the main attributes of every state., but this offers no guidance as to the amount due, forms of payment accepted, or how it will be refunded. Obviously I would worry about it *not* being refunded!
Caravanistan, on the other hand, advises: "The old customs regimes have been cancelled. There are now no longer any hefty deposits to be paid, and the total time in the country for your vehicle is 90 days, even if your visa is only for 30 days. Total payment at the border amounts to 20$ mandatory insurance for 30 days. Someone might want to sell you insurance for 90 days; you do not have to take it. An additional 20$ road tax is collected when exiting the country." https://caravanistan.com/transport/driving/azerbaijan/ I've asked my (U.S.) Consulate for clarification and will pass on any they should offer. But the report of the last biker to pass through would be the most reliable source, in my opinion. I should be trying it myself in about two weeks. |
