Anyone for a Stella?

I'm currently building a website for all things Stella (Alpina, not Artois) related as there doesn't seem to be an official one anywhere and I thought it'd be a good idea to have some kind of central resource for anyone interested in going.

The idea is to build it up with loads of details of routes (how to get there, great roads on the way down and unmissable ones once there), details of campsites along the routes, B&B's, Hotels etc or anything else vaguely relevant.

So this is where, hopefully, you guys come in. The more info on there the better for everyone so if any of you Stella Veterans would like to donate a few lines about your experiences, some pictures, videos, GPS logs, top tips, equpiment recommendations or anything else that'd be great.

I know there's a good load of pics and write-ups out there in cyberspace, but I dont want to plunder them without the owners permission!

I might even get a little Forum going on there if I ever figure out how to do it!

So answers on a postcard to info@stellaalpina.co.uk if you please :thumbup1:

Stella

Hi, Myself and a club mate did the Stella in 2005, and in 2006 Chris went again and met up with me the following weekend for the 'pyrenknees-up' where I went down with my van to transport my dirtbike, we are planning the same arrangement for '07. Our club website as some pictures that you are welcome to use, the site is www.kdmcc.com

Stella Site

Hi, I enjoyed the stella so much that I too considered building a site when I returned home.

On researching the subject I found that the stella was originally well publicised and after the first few years the stella became heavily over subscribed.

It was at this point that the Italian Authorities banned the rally. I am unsure of all the details but when the organiser wanted to reopen the rally he made sure not to overtly publicise the rally thus preventing crowding and another bann.

This is why there is not an official website and the rally is not officially publicised to this day.

Given the number of tossers ripping up and down the hill on crossers and other folk trailering their bikes to the rally I fear that the rally is nearly over publicised as it is.

All of the above led me to abandon the project in the knowledge that I wasn't going to help to destroy what is one of the most fun events I have ever attended.

Mike.

That was exactly the problem.
The Stella started life as a rally for ROAD bikes. The track was such that you could get up there on your 1200 Bandit or whatever.

The Italians themselves were the problem. Arriving in vans with full-blown motocrosser and knoblies, ripping up the track. Others followed.

The rally is only one weekend and they were buggering the track for everyone else.

Familiar story.
