There has been some improvement to the roads from Eu money but I found most roads in such a poor state you dont really want to be going faster than the speed limits. Some of the potholes are big enough to loose a front wheel in and if they are bigger on the otherside of the road the lorries swerve and use your side :eek3: But its such a beautful place :cool4:

We travelled around Romania in 2009 and went past lots of speed check areas in villages. We got stopped by the police after one village along with 7 Romanian bikers, but only held until they worked out which bikes had been speeding! During this time however the Romanian bikers tried to convince us to bride the police men! We always found that cars coming towards you warned you of the radar being in the village!

Speeding

It always amazes me that people are suprised they get pulled over and fined when speeding abroad. I´m sure this happens in your homecountry too...so what is this all about? You are in a strange country, are unfamiliar with roadconditions, directions and general traffic habits of the locals...more than enough reasons to drive mature. Stick to the speedlimits and go with the general flow of things and you´ll be allright. I understand you can get unlucky but again this can also happen at home. As for Romania ,the roads range from fair to poor and they are working hard to improve things...remember they have a lot of catching up to do....consider challenging roads as part of the adventure. Did Romania from south to north in june , across the Transfagarasan highway, on a packed cruiser and it was easy going all the way. Rob.

Crossed into Romania on our way to Transfaragasan through Hungary. Lots of trucks at the crossing, but just rode on past them. Once over the border, was about to speed off, when the driver in the car in front cautioned me to slow down. Sure enough, cop with radar a few km's up the road. Once past, the car driver waved me on by. In the time we were in Romania (in fact the entire 5,000km trip through 10 countries), we were never hassled by the police once. One of the cops at the edge of a town even signalled to us to show him some wheelies (declined, just in case he was looking to catch us out). The riding in Romania was an absolute pleasure (compared to all the highway up till that point) and the people friendly. Planning on heading back there in the summer (but this time shipping the bike there and avoiding the long haul on boring highway/autobahn)
