Winch for LR110
 

Hello all!

I'm planning on buying a Landrover 110 with air conditioning, and have been told by my local dealer that because of the larger radiator, I can't fit a winch to the bumper, but could mount it in the engine bay. Is this true, and what are the pro's and con's of such a setup???

I don’t know much about the LR but I think you can get an after market bumper with a winch mount. Try ARB or TJM and see if they have anything that fits.

I used to have a 110 with aircon and a winch.

I fitted the winch by replacing the standard front bumper with a BRB Roo Bar from Dave Bowyer. He has a number of different options.

Thanks for the very quick responses. The David Bowyer stuff looks very interesting - maybe I won't be buying a Warn after all.

I'm not sure what the exact regulations are, but I'm under the impression that fitting aftermarket Bull / A / Roo bars to new vehicles is illegal in Europe (+UK) because of pedestrian safety... Any one know how this would apply to a front mounted winch?

Marshland Off Road have a good solution with their modular removable system but, Quote:- ' TD5 with aircon requires removal of front grill to fit' Hmm.

Is there a good argument against sticking the winch in the engine bay (where it's probably safer in a shunt and doesn't affect approach angles) and sticking it out front where it's easier to see what the drum's doing?

I'm afraid whoever is advising you on the A/C and winch is feeding you a lot of
bu11$h1t. You fit the winch on a bumper/bracket, which may have any shape, as long as it is firmly connected to the chassis legs. Check ARB bumpers available from Taubenreuther, look into Hans Daerr catalogue, or better still come to the LR Billing show on 19-23 July to see for yourself. There are tens of thousands of 110s with winches all over the world, so don't get discouraged by someone ill informed.

Hi Roman, my local landrover dealer is obviously trying to treat me like a mushroom, glad to hear that Air-con isn't going to cut dowm my winching options, now I just have to choose one........
