Sometimes is good to wait a little.

I just got the offer of a set of 6 Michelin Scorpion Dakar , 750 x 16, kevlar reinforced. They are used ( 3 trips in Libia) but still got a lot in them.

Are the 7.50's ok for a TLC 80 ? Or rather too narrow for a heavy loaded vehicle in sand and rocks ?

I still got the BF AT 265-75-16. Are the 7'50 taller?

Thanks !

Hey Armadillo
The 265's will be just a bit taller than the 7.50s -nothing much in it though....

Ive used 265 BFG Muds on the 90 for a trip to Ghana and back - they dont excel in anything -there are better sand, mud and road tyres available - but they come out as a good all-rounder that is suprisingly good in sand (especially when part worn) - tough and last for high kms.

as we've said - the 7.50s are available everywhere so if you are doing a long trip then go with this size - they are fine on a TLC - just keep them inflated to the correct pressures.
if not then think about going with what you have - the BFG muds - the TLC will perform well with them with its torque- and they will be better in rough/rocky conditions - though you still have to watch those sidewalls !!!

cheers
Grif

Gipper, thank you for your answer.

I got a very good price on the 6 Pirelli Dakar, so I'll collect them soon.

They got some reinforced visible rings on the side, like the Pirelli Scorpion Zero I use in the LR S2, which makes the side wall quite strong. I used the P.S. Zero as low as 400 grams. When we got to Chingeti thru the south dunes coming from Tidjikja the LR (petrol) did not get stock once. I still use'm in the Series 2 to take the kids to school, since the local farm "roads" are very rocky. The Zero are not good on rain, but it hardly rains here.

take care !

I drive 255/85/16 BFG Muds for years now on several rigs I owned.
Done heavy adventure offroad to loads of pistes, desert driving to crawling steep rocks,snow,rain,..
To me it's the best allrounder ever.
In soft sand deflate to 800gr/1kilo and you'll manage to get thru without too much shovelling.
And they will last for 100k km as well

The only downside is the noise on high speed highway driving.
