I plan to fit one to my Td5 later on. i'm also fitting an autobox to my Tdi 90 soon, and i've managed to pick up a brand new wolf oil cooler off of ebay for about a tenner, so i'll use that for the oil cooler (because i've got a full width intecooler, there isn't any room to fit the cooler in front of the radiator, i'll have to make a bracket to fit it behind or alongside the rad)

Without wanting to hijack the thread, there seems to be a few southern Spain residents on here, so wondering if anybody can point me to where I might be able to get a 12 volt power (and serial computer) cable for my Garmin GPS III?

I´m stuck in Torrex until I get hold of one - not as expensive to fix but quite importent to get fixed before catching the ferry ;-)

I´ve tried 2 places in Malaga that were recommended to me, but no luck. It´s the older round plug into teh back of the III etc

Hi all,
A bit of a late reply but we have not really been able to sit down and reply.
I tried to place a ( quite extensive) reply a week or so ago but it somehow didn't get posted.
Anyway..
About the costs involved in replacing our engine. I'll try and give a summary of the options and costs we considered.
1..Overhauling the old engine 1000 to 2000 euro's. This would only be a temporary solution. (still and old underpowered engine with 400000 k on the clock when we get back) We never really considered this.
2.. Replacing with a different 2.5 N/A. We never considered this option as the engine is underpowered
3.. Replacing with a 200 TDi. The easiest upgrade. We were quoted 2000 euro/s for a conversion to 'good running' engine bij Paul Richards in Estepona. A very nice and in my opinion capable guy who specialises in Landrovers. As we were not sure about the condition of the engine we dismissed the option.
4.. Replacing with a 300 TDi, totally rebuilt, with good R380 box from a disco.We were quoted 6500 euros by Ian Nash from Redline cars in Estepona.
Again a very capable guy who specialises in landrovers. The price was nice but we weren't convinced. Adding a R380 would mean changing the tunnel, propshafts and more. Things that we felt were overseen in the quote.
5.. Replacing with a new HS. International 2.8 TGV. The most powerful engine. I enquired at the company that imports and exports the engines in Holland. They were very helpfull and prepared to ship the engine anywhere in europe for 175 euros. The engine alone costs about 6500 Euros On top of that I woul need a kit to fit the engine to the car (gearbox, rad, intercooler etc.) cost about 3200 euros. on top of that I would need a new reduction box cost about 1000 euro's and an exaust, cost 150 euro's. The engine and kit would cost me almost 11000 euro's and I would still need to get it fitted.
We also enquired with other Dutch garages for a quote on fitting the 2.8 TGV.
We briefly considered using a 300 TDi from a 110 which had rolled and was available as donor. The youngest 300TDi's are 7 years old and we had no way of checking the state of the engine etc. We dismissed this option.
Our choice .. A new 2,8 TGV with a totally revised and specially built LT77gearbox. The gearbox has a specially built (ashcroft?) bellhouse that fits on the 2.8 TGV. There are no conversions needed on the tunnel or propshafts . The reduction box is a rebuilt 1.222. Everything is included. Radiator, intercooler, hoses everything. I am also having powered steering fiited. (500 euro's extra)
The whole operation is costing me a little under 12000 euros. The old engine will be removed and everything else fitted in a little less than a week.
Vis Landroversupplies in The Hague will be carrying out the operation. They have done it a number of times. I am confident that they will do a good job.
All being well we should be heading back south again within a week from now (2 nov.)
I will try and do a photo shoot on the conversion.
There is a chance that an article may appear in Landrover Owner International magazine.
As soon as we are on our way again we will try and let you know.

Another option might have been to buy a recon, off the shelf 200 tdi from Turner Engineering. Probably better than new, and although you might need a few ancilliaries which they supply (inj pump etc) would have been cheaper, knowing them totally reliable and no major mods.
