Tubes - buying, storing & repairing
 

I'm after a bunch of Michelin tubes for my XZY's (7.50 R16's) but nobody seems to sell them. Does anybody have any suggests for places that can sell me about 10 tubes?

Also, in the past they have usually kicked about in the back of the landy in the Michelin cardboard boxes they come supplied in. How do you guys store them? Should I just strap them together with a piece of paper inbetween each one to prevent chaffing?

Oh, and any suggestion for a tube/tyre repair kit? I know the likes of the serious overland companies do them, but I'd prefer to pay a bit less than they charge ;-)

I can get Michelin inner tubes, but you'd have to order 10 at a time. £17.90 each inc vat.
Or cheap and cheerful inner tubes £9.50 inc vat each.

But I think tubeless is the way to go, and an innertube or two as back up. But we've all had this debate before!!

Your local tyre repair places should be able to order whatever kit would suit you, or Google it. Should be cheaper that the overland specialists 'cos it's what the tyre trade uses. Packs of patches and bottles of adhesive etc available separately too. I'm storing things like tubes in my camper in Really Useful Boxes now; lots of sizes, strong, good lids and reasonable prices. I order my tubes (255/100x16, not an off the shelf size!) from ATS Euromaster as they are Michelin agents.

Just having a cup of Waitrose Columbian Freeze-Dried Strength 3, milk one sugar, with my lunch but I prefer Kenco Really Strong. I've got lots to do too so why the hell are we wasting time writing posts on the HUBB???

Darrin, my cents worth: keep them sealed and well away from oils, fluids, diesel etc. The rubber doesn't like them – I once lost a whole stash of tubes to a little brake fluid leak.

btw Are you still flogging your ally tank?

NIgel - good tip on the boxes, was looking for a replacement for my 5 euro Chinese poly-baskets!

I've not had any problems getting hold of 7.50x16 tubes, although for my split rims I use commercial grade BMV tubes. Thet are about a zillion times thicker than the crappy cheap car tubes and cost well under a tenner each. Go for the best you can get, cheap tubes are crap!! (general wisdom is avoid BMVs though unless the design of your wheel means you have to have them, as mine do)
failing that try Vass limited in bedford. they are the MOD disposal agents for tyres and always have tubes as well. have a look at them for tyres too, they are very good value.
I think any independent trye fitter that does commercials will be able to get them for you.

Cheers - I've just bought 2 tyres off Vass but they couldn't supply the tubes as well. I kinda keen to pay as little as possible obviously as well ;-)

With regards to the Rema Tiptop (a brand of ice cream in NZ) any suggestions for which kit I should get. (I have been trying to get Matt Savage to sell them for ages, so please feel free to email him saying you would also buy a kit if he stocked them (sales/mattsavage/com)

The last set I got from my local tyre supplier, no problem, it's interesting vass don't have them either, is there maybe a national supply issue?
