Spare wheel carrier options

Hi

Trying to source a carrier for the rear of landcruiser 80 series. Have seen the ARB and Kaymar but they seem very expensive. Any ideas?

Try Frogs Island 4x4 they specialise in LR and toyota overland modifications, i'm sure Eddie could sort you out with something.

They're just off the A34 near Milton, up near Didcot power station.

try this

Not sure about Frogs...many mixed reports. try joining this - good resource of people who own cruisers, www.landcruisers.info/

or try Footloose 4x4 or Matt Savage. Kaymar are very good but the twin wheel carrier is very heavy. Maybe even Scorpion just off the north circ in London.

HDJ81 with many african miles under its belts...

Hi. The Kaymar wheel carriers are fantastic. VERY strong and a good simple mechanism. But they are very expensive.
The only cheap alternative is a spare wheel carrier on ebay (item number 8032467761), these are £195 I think.
I've fitted both types and I would recommend the Kaymar. The cheaper one will be ok, but you have to strengthen the inner wing where it bolts on, and the whole assembly is not very chunky.
Cheers,
Matt

Others have mentioned the standard options from Aus, however TBR UK (TBRUK LTD - Run by Enthusiasts for Enthusiasts) are about to launch a cheaper range of UK made carriers - give Chris a call there and he should be able to help you out.

Ooh crikey... can of worms!! LOL! http://forums.lr4x4.com/style_emotic...ult/unsure.gif

I've had nothing but good service from Frogs island, but that's definately more than can be said for $crapiron racing...(IMO)

And their business ethics suck too! http://forums.lr4x4.com/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif

Stick it on the roof rack!

Considerably cheaper than all that gubbins hanging off the back, and it will prevent you from putting something heavier up there.

Happy travels
Luke

Understand what you said about the Kaymar being expensive but it is an awesome piece of kit - try some of the forums in Aus - there might be someone selling one

Worth a try.......

I can barely lift my steel split rims!! gold bars would be lighter, and better for bribes!!!

My answer- All I've bought from scrapiron is a set of ratchet straps so don't really know. Anyway, they know little about Lanc Cruisers from what I can gather.

I've been chatting to devon 4x4 recently about stuff for my H60 and they seem to know their stuff, you could try them.

Another option

South African outfit who are obviously small but very professional - offer rear bumper/wheel carriers for almost any 4x4. Not as expensive as ARB offerings from TBR or the others! Their design is basically an almost clone of the kaymar stuff, and after spending a Sunday afternoon fitting one I can confirm they are damn solid! Anyone wants one shipped from SA I have a friend who dabbles a bit in supplying stuff from SA to anywhere (just mail me gilmour.dickson-at-mac-dot-com).
