RAM suction- Defender dash vinyl

Any experience with using RAM suction cups on the vinyl of the Defender dash, more specifically on the bottom of the dash by the air vents?
Gravity obviously, but also the the vinyl is not super smooth like glass, slightly dimpled. Would it hold under rough terrain?

I'd like to mount a tablet using the RAM double suction cups, rather than having it on the windscreen etc (illegal in Portugal I believe!).

Illegal in other places too - eg California

Ive had poor results on dimpled surfaces, even with the cups that have a sticky surface. Might work as advertised with small phones but not with anything larger. Always end up using a couple of screws to hold a bracket on. Down under the screw holes wouldn't be noticeable

I'd agree with Tony - even on glass windscreens, suction cups can drop off in hot weather and/or due to vibration...

If you want to use various RAM mounts/cradles, I'd just screw either a regular diamond base or even just one of their bolt-through types to the dash (it might be an idea to sandwich the dash plastic with a large penny washer behind too) and use a short arm to fix whichever accessories you want?

Thanks all, that's what I thought...
Some more research suggests that this might work... again bolted to the underneath of the dash as it slopes down... I'm going to take the dash apart anyway, so can put a plate on the inside and use bolts rather than screws etc

They sell different types etc
