Less Is Best
 

I am now living back in Europe after many years working overseas and enjoying extended camping trips of up to 5 weeks in the deserts of Oz/ME and Africa and driving back to the UK 3 times.

In the 1980-1990s I went out with as much water and fuel as I could fit in because there were no roads or filling stations.As the world has'developed' it is now quite hard to find places within reach of Spain/UK that you could honestly say need a lot of water/fuel/equipt unless you are planning on deliberately being off the road for a long time(which is still highly recommended).

I run a Defender and have now taken out the rear crash barrier/tool frame,have never used the roofrack except to support an awning,have an 40l GRP rear footwell water tank I leave at home(still got 35l wing tank) and only fill my second wing fuel tank when I plan to stay in the 'country'.

I have only used a rooftent on one trip as getting in and out during the night is a pain and now,with most of our 'camping' on sites in Europe and Moroc,the Mrs says its an embarassment in the middle of the night:cool4:.

I have only ever used LR or Nissan standard suspension setups but harder springs(only)may help with a heavily loaded vehicle.Travel light is the Golden Rule but maybe have tanks available for F&W depending on range requirements that should be assessed before you buy.

Having blown all that steam,I think that to spend lots of money on additional equipt and tanks is not really necessary for an annual trip to Maroc but the rest depends on where you are headed and for how long!
