300tdi defender safari snorkel

Hi,
I am fitting a Safari Snorkel to my 300tdi defender and was wondering a few things.

The instructions say to seal up the flap in the existing water trap. From what I can see, with the normal Safari intake, rain is still going to get down and therefore fill up the bottom of the snorkel body. This water could then easily be sucked passed the sealed water trap and up into the engine, a V bad thing.

Is this a problem or am I being over cautious? Would a mushroom top be a better idea, I believe you can get them for Safari's?

Thanks for your help.

Rob

In general, with rain etc, the amount of water getting into the engine through the snorkel will be minimal. And it takes quite a bit of water at one time to do any damage. Water vapor and drops are fine. You only hydrolock if you get a solid suck of water into the engine. That will only happen if you put the end of the snorkel into water.

cheers
