Zega Pro vs Zega Pro 2

I'm about to buy the BMW GSA 2015 and am now trying to figure out which Touratech Cases would do better.

I have the original BMW Cases on my 2008 GSA and they took some hits, it was always possible to repair them but I want something stronger.

So looking at the Zega Pro's the big diffrence is the way you attach them to the bike... Zega Pro has a very simple way of attaching it and I guess if they brake down you will be able to repair it on the road. Zega Pro 2 has a much more complex way of attaching it, it looks like there is alot of potential to have some bend metal after a hit.

Both can be opend from the outside without opening the cases (Zega Pro only with some additional lock).

What is your opinion/expierience?

I've no experience of the panniers but I have got the Zega top case on my 1200GS and I've never been that impressed with it. Not for what it cost.

After a lot of looking I bought Jesse panniers, and have never regretted it. I think the strength, quality and value for money is far better. They come powder coated and have locks already fitted, also the mounting mechanism is very easy to operate. Have a look before you decide.

No love for Zega here either. Mine (I assume they are the "1's") leaked from day 1.

Soft bags all the way for me now but that's another thread.

If you absolutely have to then I'd take the original Zega's.

But don't expect them to be any better then the BMW alu cases. They very easy start to leak from the lid (very very flimsy construction). A couple of years ago I hit a small rock in Bulgaria rolling past it (I was rolling very slowly, and the rock was only 1x1x1m), and my right case was absolutely dented - that is what they are supposed to do. But it took me some hours to make it waterproof again.

I'd go for something cheaper than Zega's... I know I will next time.

On of my Zega Pro2 panniers has felt when overloaded on bad roads (steel fixation bar bended).
My advice would be to go for the classic Zega Pro system which seems more robust and simpler. The Zega panniers themselves are robust enough, from my experience : the pannier that felt several times heavily loaded is still in good condition. You can probably have stronger panniers, but heavier.

I've currently got Zega 2s, they've been decent. Always waterproof and never badly damaged enough in a drop to cause a problem.

Only problem I ever had was that in one drop the case popped off the frame, it went right back on, no bending needed and no damage to the mechanism.

My set are up for sale, if you want a 31/38 black pannier set (and a 38 topbox?) you are welcome to them. They are in good condition, never badly bent, a few minor scratches. Comes with the TT liner bags and lid inner nets. I'm only selling because I've been turned to the light side of the force, going for a smaller bike and soft luggage.
