Which Spot Lights
I've decided the MT500e needed some extra lights for our trip to Morocco later this year. After much searching a friend put me on to a pair of LED spots from 'Zen Overland' and to coin a phrase 'I've seen the light'!
I cannot give them enough praise, easy as pie to put on. An in-line fuse and connectors go straight to the battery, even a person like me who hates electrics was not afraid to tackle this job. Wiring loom and switch are included. I woud say the hardest part is deciding where to put them. The light beem is very bright (these are meant for 'off-road only boys and girls) but at times have been usefull when an aproaching car has forgotten where his dip switch is. The spots can be used on either 4x4 or motorcycle and I would say are far brighter than anything which is available for BMW. I have a pair of Touratech spots on my Fazer 1000 and they are nowhere near as good as these and use far less power. Anyway I think they are the dogs whats its and can be got from www.zenoverland.co.uk who are the sole supplier for the UK. |

I would like to mention that Zen Overland have been very helpful for me prepping for my morrocco trip in June. |

Why do people spend so much on extra lights when you should'nt be riding after dark anyway. its sooo dangerous.:nono:

Maybe because we know we don't always manage to get in by bedtime?

I was delayed at the Ethiopian border for five hours due to bullsh*t and had no choice but to ride through the night to the nearest town. I ended up hitting a big rock and blowing out my tyre due to inadequate lighting.. In Brazil I was stuck in road works for a couple of hours in the middle of nowhere so also had little choice but to push on.. For me anyway, I always ride/travel on Enduro bikes and their likes are CR*P !! Most bigger bikes don't need extra spots but for small enduro bikes I think they are a good upgrade for any trip into yonder.. |
lights
I vote for the LED fron sanjoh , cheap and very powerfull and they draw little watt , better that the fella 50 watt I had on my bike before. to answer an other question , I agree that riding at night is npt the best things to do in some countries but if you have to do it you better have great lights ,plus if my main light break I can use the aux lights , I also use them sometime in day light when I want to be seen (fog or other bad viz ) they have to be strong waterproof ,small enought to do not bather the bike shape )big hella are easy to brake sometime )

Do you have any night time shots with the light patern against a wall? Also I assume as they are LED that the start up time is virtually instantaneous? Please confirm. This should also mean that OFF then ON again will be more or less instantaneous as well? Thanks for the feedback. |

If you scoll down the page on the link above there is a video of them in action |

LED spotlights KLE 500

Hi Guys
I've attached pictures of some LED spotlights that I've fitted to my bike. I bought them off eBay. I also bought the LED dimmer from the same seller on ebay - 2allbuyer. Here's the link: 20W 12V 1600LM CREE LED Light Rally Ranger 4x4 Dirt ATV | eBay and here's a report by a guy who took them apart and know's about electronics and LED's: LED Auxiliary Lights - Page 21 - ADVrider I wired up the lights with the dimmer and two 5 pin relays. They run through the dimmer when headlight is on low beam. When on high beam the relays switch to bypass the dimmer and the spots run full power. The dimmer is adjusted by means of a remote keyfob, and can also be switched off. The lights really make the bike stand out in the day. Haven't tried them at night - will have to wait until the days get shorter. When I flash the brights at a sign though in the daytime, it really lights up. I'm very happy with these spots and would recommend them. |
I had a pair of the Rigid Industries lights on a previous bike and I noticed that the powder coated ally bodies ha developed a few chips and flakes.
Taking them out of storage to put on another bike today, the powder coat is peeling off wholesale. A bit of a disappointment considering the cost. Great lights, but once bitten, twice shy! It looks like the Cree light's bodies are anodised which should be a lot more durable. Are they good as additional night time illumination? I'm not interested in them just as day time running lights. Cheers. |
Pleased to report that Zen Overland have offered to take back my Rigid Industries lights and get them replaced or refurbed. That's good service for something I bought 2 1/2 years ago.

Raid Designs AB - LED 30W >3200lm I have no switch on my setup and when I tested them at night the oncomming cars stopped and the drivers hold their hand in front of their eyes. :nono: The beam is a bit short for high-speed driving (>100 km/h) but for offroad they are very nice! |
