what luggage for XR400?
Hi I'm an australian that is planning on a RTW on a honda XR400. I'm in Kuala Lumpur at the moment about to buy bike in Thailand. Not really sure about how to approach the luggage situation, i have a few objectives:
*About 75L of space *will wear a backpack to carry essentials (SLR Cam, Passport, eePC..) *easily removable *Secure enough to leave on bike while i wonder around, but will only store cloathes and a few other things that are not vital. So im thinking saddle bags? but i dont want huge bags as they look silly. Wit the backpack perhaps i only need 45-50Litres of space for the bags / paniers? thanks for any help offered. |
Soft Luggage option
Andrew,
Firstly I have a TTR250 and mulled over this same question until I discovered Kreiger :clap:luggage. I have the 20L main bag and 2 x 10l bags that strap onto the main bag behind the seat. Very watertight, very secure on the bike. I don't need a rack. I also use a small back pack and bum-bag (tools). I've strapped the tyre levers on the bars and have a small puncture repair kit on the front fender. If you pack light it's all you really need. I carry the following gear: Tent Sleeping bag Sleeping mat Small gas stove etc All of the above I got at a specialist camping store so it is all light weight and packs small. Cheers. |
Andy Strapz expedition panniers are excellent soft bags!

Wolfman stuff is well made too but as mentioned in other threads here, their range is not waterproof. I put their tank panniers on the same XR250 in Sri Lanka in the monsoon season and they filled up nicely with water... Stephan |
