Waterproofing
 

Hi,

Firstly, what waterproofing/reproofing solutions do people use for their panniers?

I've got a set of andystrapz and I think they recommend nikwax but which one? There seem to be a couple of different ones I could go for. Does anyone have any tips in this department on getting the best results? What to do about contents other than buy everything its own little dry bag? What about tool kits in tooltubes - how do you stop water getting in?

That's the stuff. They do different sorts for different materials, some is spray on, some wash in and you can achieve very good results that might have you rethinking what gear you carry. After I proofed the sidecar tonneau cover I used what was left over on a pair of combat trousers I use for gardening/DIY. Result: lightwight, showerproof trousers you could wear to most places and would double as a second/emergency/backup pair of riding trousers in the summer. I need to get some more and use it on kit I dare wear outside the house.

I use fabsil
Grangers Fabsil 1Litre Tin from Surplus and Outdoors / Grangers Fabsil
it is cheaper and is designed to be used on any fabric. if you go the niKwax match the sealant to the fabric. Fabsil DOES clog Gortex and the like.. but for bags who cares!

Been using Nikwax for years its good stuff. will proof my draggins when i get em so that I only need to stop for heavy rain:scooter:
