Touratech Style Pannier Mount

Touratech wants to charge me AU$50 for each pannier mount to fit in the rear footpeg tubing on my F650 Dakar. This got me thinking, why not get some made myself. But I'm not sure if this is how they work.

Would someone owning these be able to confirm for me please?

Cheers

Hi I have a Dakar as well and I also have the Touratech rack, do you mean the bit that pulls and slides to make it tight? I always thought that they were crap to tell the truth, look week to me when I installed them.

So I wouldn't bother if you plan on keeping the bike just get them welded to the back of the foot rests, once on you woun't ever want to take off the pannier rack it add so much more strength to the bike.

That's it. I had that kind of bracket on my non-brand handlebar guards before and though it was a pretty good idea. I'm having a bit of a pain getting some made for me and I'm not paying Touratech prices.

I hear what ya saying, but what if you totally bend the crap out of it and you have to get it straightened. I'n not big fan of welding things to a bike.

I'm now thinking of bolting the bit of plate on the end of the pannier rack to the foot peg tubing. As I've cut it to go behind the foot peg, I'll have to weld a new piece onto the pannier rack. Shame, because I already had it powder coated.
