Plastic or metal jerycans?

I am hoping to take 5l extra fuel and 5 l extra water when going to Marocco. I was thinking that I needed metal jerrycans because these would be the most strong. But yesterday I heard that plastic ones actually might be better.

Has anyone any experience of thoughts on this? What should I take wiht me: plastic ones or metal ones and what are the pro and cons of each?

Hai,

I do know that a 5 L plastic fuel-can is very very strong. I actually drove my jeep over one (by accident) and it did not leak a drop.
The metal ones are probably also very strong, but if the cap is damaged (bend a bit) it will leak.
I would go for plastic.

just remember plastic melts - I've seen another biker with gasoline dripping all over his exhaust from a plastic cannister that got a little too warm...
Personally I'd go with whatever you can get your hands on...
