Petrol quality in Africa

Hello everybody!
I'm taking my Ktm Adventure on a transafrica trip in the next few weeks. I'm a bit worried about the bike running in poor quality petrol due to its high compresion, so I thinking of investing on this C.D.I unit from Ktm, the problem being that it cost just over £200. Has anyone used it before? Can anyone tell me what they thing of such a thing and if is worth spending the money? What follows is the info from the Ktm website:

Planing a longer trip in countries with poor gasoline quality? With this digibox you can activate two ignition curves (one for 95 ROZ and the other for qualities down to 85 ROZ) simply by connecting or separating a contact.

For models:
- all 640 LC4-E

In the same boat with my Adventure. On the one hand others have crossed Africa on KTMs, presumably without the ignition box. I’ve also heard of a KTM accidentally being run on Aviation fuel in a rally (i.e. in race conditions) without any problems, although this is unconfirmed.

On the other hand, and I know it all adds up, but is £200 much to pay for an extra bit of piece of mind when compared to the overall cost of your trip, or considering that some folks spend around twice that on a race pipe?

I don’t think I’ll be buying one, accepting that the bike may run a bit badly, and taking it easy on the motor as you ought to anyway.

Remember this is just my opinion.

Cheers
