Overland single wheel trailer for motorbike - UK

HI all,

Having recently returned from:scooter: riding around SE Asia:palm::Beach:, i desperately want to return, stopping off on a RTW trip, AND pulling my gear rather than carrying it on the bike.

Whilst in SE Asia, i was often amazed at what the motorbikes were pulling and how. I've now done a little research and have found a couple of single wheel trailer manufacturers in the states and one in the UK. Unfortunately the one in the UK has "taken 2016 off" and those in the states are too expensive or won't ship internationally, but look good.http://www.moto-mule.com/shop/wp-con.../06/hdt-02.jpg

I then got to thinking about trying to get one put together using a donor rear suspension from a 250cc trail bike, welding/modifying a frame, creating a hitch.....

Can anyone offer any advice ??c?

An interesting alternative and trailers are quite popular with touring cyclist, my question is do these trailers comply with the maximum 2.5 metre length from the centre of the bike rear wheel to the back of the trailer?

Not sure where this trailer came from but if you can pull it behind that Honda ST50 /70 (or whatever it is) then you can probably make anything work.

Whether it's a sensible means of hauling baggage does depend on what you're taking with you:

Hi Lyndon, a little late but are you still looking..?? I went into some depth at design level for trailers and have some wonderful outcomes. My fabrication chap can make anything and his speciality is suspension geometry if you are still looking to get one.

That's Gran. She fell of the back - we never saw her again.

Below is a design not to try. Made by a mate around an 125 swingarm + UJ. Wobbled before you got out of 1st, with or without load.
The key, we decided, was the wheel trailing the load/CoG - not trying for balance, like caravan theory. More like a bicycle BOB trailer.

Hi Lyndon,
Did you ever make any progress with this idea?

At least 2 people have tried to take their motorcycle specific trailers to an Australian Off Centre Rally. None of them made it. I think motorcycle trailers would be ok on good roads, but not off paved surfaces. Add the difficulty in transporting the trailer (plane or ship) and for RTW forget it, just reduce the amount your carrying around.
