Mounting normal panniers to Ural sidecar rig?
 

I have a Ural sidecar rig. I'd like to mount some normal panniers (Ex Touratech) to the rear of the bike but of course I haven't been able to find any mounts/brackets designed for this. Ideally I'd like to get it worked out before spending the money for the luggage. Anyone else have experience mounting panniers to a Ural?
Or do I have to just buy the luggage first and then hope I can find some way to mount it?

I'm looking for something lockable and preferably removable. Around 29 liters or smaller. Can be steel or other material (fiber/plastic is fine since the bike doesn't fall over :) )

TT use plastic "hockey puck" type things mounted with self tapping screws to hold the box to the frame (I won't go OT and comment on this design but lets say it's good that outfits are very hard to tip over). The boxes come undrilled and you can buy the hockey pucks in 15mm or 18mm. You can therefore mount them to any 15mm or 18mm frame (Metal Mule etc.) or you can buy 18mm loops of frame from TT and weld the tags on to fit the Ural.

Toughest bit IMHO is going to be getting a rack not the boxes as you say. I think you'll need a welder.

I'd read the soft vs hard luggage discussion too, most of these tin boxes are just as quick to open if you have a half brick, a screwdriver and a mindset from a rough neighbourhood as they are with the keys. I'd trust the DIY store hasp and dirty great padlock on my old Ural sidecars luggage compartment lid before I'd leave anything I needed in a TT box.
